Loretta Hale (Born in Oshawa ON) is a Hamilton based musician that also teaches privately. She has been performing for over 18 years, starting out by playing in all sorts of community pit bands, cello choirs, quartets, trio’s, duo’s and youth orchestra’s throughout Southern Ontario. To name a few: Rosetta Strings with her sister Rosemary, The Oshawa Youth Orchestra, The Orno Youth Orchestra, The Sinfonia Sacra, Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Big Wind Big Band, Hamilton Firefighters Drum Corps and The Hamilton Concert Band.
She graduated from Mohawk College for Cello in the 3 year Classical/Jazz program in Hamilton, Ontario. She played cello and trumpet in many of the Mohawk ensembles including the Mohawk College Big Band as lead trumpeter, a cello duo, and ensembles of the jazz, funk, and fusion persuasion. Loretta received a Specialist Certificate in the Music Business from Berklee College of Music. One of her promotional ideas was published in Bob Bakers book: Guerrilla Music Marketing Online.
The Loretta Hale Big Band was created in 2005 when completing college to share her love of the Big Band Era and to have a rehearsal band for musicians and community members to play their hearts out.
Loretta is also a member for the award winning Andre Bisson Band that performs in Canada, US and the UK. She is also a cellist with Rosetta Strings a String Duo/Trio/Quartet. She enjoys doing recording sessions, playing with bands/ensembles in need of a string and brass touch.
She was nominated for “Tour Manager of The Year” in the 2013 Hamilton Industry Awards for her work with a UK & Ireland Tour with the Andre Bisson Band and was Nominated for a Hamilton Music Award for “Special Instrumentalist” for cello on an album by local songwriter Justin Sawicki. In 2016 she was nominated for “Special Instrumentalist” for her cello and trumpet performance on Andre Bisson’s “Left With the Blues”.
